- 2010 TAWAS POINT BIRDING FESTIVAL
- A NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED EVENT THAT BROUGHT
- THOUSANDS OF BIRD WATCHERS TO IOSCO COUNTY THIS YR.
AGAIN, This festival was one of the signature annual events of Michigan Audubon. The festival was presented with the assistance of the local chapter, the AuSable Valley Audubon, the Huron-Manistee National Forest and Tawas Point State park.
Field trips throughout Iosco County highlighted both habitats and species. Tours included Tawas Point, Pine River Habitat and Tawas Point Lighthouse. Bus Trips where available to see the Kirtland Warbler and Tuttle Marsh.
173 Species were sighted. Unusual birds sightings included the Purple Gallinule found @ Tuttle Marsh
Fourteen members of the Pomona Valley Audubon in California toured both the Tawas Point and Tuttle Marsh after the birdfest. In 2009 an Audubon group from Mississippi also took advantage of the spring migration AFTER the festival. Both groups were very pleased with sighting new “lifers”.
